Media Release: TOUR DE POLOGNE AND VELON TAKE FANS INTO THE ACTION OF THE RACE

New technology will deliver real time broadcasts of the riders’ performance.

Warsaw, 11 July, 2016 - The Tour de Pologne is pleased to announce a new collaboration with Velon, the joint-venture company of 11 WorldTour teams, to use its ground breaking data transmission system to deliver real-time performance data to broadcasters of riders’ data through all stages of the WorldTour race. The Spanish Movistar team will join Velon in this initiative.

The deal between the Tour de Pologne and Velon will place 12 transponders under the bike saddles of 12 riders, one from each team. These devices will transmit and record some important data regarding the riders’ performance as riders’ speed, power output, heart rate, cadence and acceleration/deceleration.

The data sent by the riders’ transponders will be broadcast each day during live TV coverage by the Polish National Broadcaster (TVP) so fans can better understand the effort made by the riders in the peloton. Furthermore, you can follow these 12 riders in real time as they get into the action every day on the roads of the Tour de Pologne, and consult all their relative data on the Velon Pro Cycling app. Velon’s website (www.velon.cc) will also broadcast the live broadcast stream of the race in for all fans to watch, whererver they are in the world. The app can be downloaded from here:

“We believe that this is a great initiative”, says Czeslaw Lang, General Director for the Tour de Pologne. “The Tour de Pologne has always been very concerned about and attentive to rider safety, but we also embrace new technology that can contribute to improving the narrative behind bicycle races, providing more information to enthusiasts who follow cycling. Our race has always been open to serving as a testing field for all those innovations that can contribute to make cycling even more spectacular and exciting. The latest cutting edge technologies can really become very interesting to fans following the race from home. The aim is to transmit the most precise emotions but also the technical details that allow everyone, even those less experienced, to discover how a rider lives and interprets the race.”

Velon CEO Graham Bartlett said: “I am delighted to have seen such a positive response from fans, riders and teams following the transmission of our live data. The Tour of Poland have given us a great chance to show the fans more of the riders’ abilities and we’re looking forward to promoting this historic race with them.”
