14th spot and bad luck in Roubaix
Wanty-Groupe Gobert returns with some mixed feelings after Paris-Roubaix. Yoann Offredo (14th) managed to finish top 15 again, just behind Tom Boonen, in the fastest Paris-Roubaix ever. Pieter Vanspeybrouck finished 37th. Van Keirsbulck, Napolitano and Backaert had some bad luck. Review by Yoann Offredo and sports director Hilaire Van der Schueren.
"After Troisvilles I was in a second group more than one minute behind. I was in the company of Adrien Petit, who was disappointed. I told him: "This is Paris-Roubaix. It is never over!" Mentally I never doubted. I had two flat tires, but I was always able to return after some time. In the end I had spilled too much energy. Too bad, but what a holy race!"
"We never had the time to do a sanitary stop. What a crazy race! Maybe there wasn't enough cooperation to return in the front of the race. But the leaders were very strong. I hoped for a better result, but during the race I spilled too much energy."
Hilaire Van der Schueren:
“We had a difficult start of the race. The pace was very high all day. There was no time to establish an early break. On the first cobbled section Napolitano crashed and a litle later Backaert had a flat tire. In the forrest of Wallers Guillaume Van Keirsbulck had a flat tire and he broke his wheel. He lost a lot of precious time over there. Suddenly we lost two important guys for the final. Vanspeybrouck and Offredo did a good final with a strong 14th spot in the and. Too bad we had some bad luck, otherwise we could have expected an even better result."
"We will now examine the damage these cobbled race have caused and afterwards we will look ahead to the next classics."
