TDF #6 : Backaert again in the offensive

Frederik Backaert went into the offensive for a second time during Tour de France. Our 27 year old rider had the company of Vegard Staeke Laengen and Perrig Quemeneur during the more than 200 kilometer long breakaway. Backaert was the fastest at the intermediate sprint in Colombey. With 3 kilometer to go Backaert and his companions were caught by the peloton. Marcel Kittel took a 2nd stage victory in Troyes. Dion Smith contested a good sprint and finished 11th. Tomorrow the riders head for Nuits-Saint-Georges over 213 kilometers.

Frederik Backaert:

"I was hesitating to go in the breakaway because it was very hot. But it's important to show our colours and good spirit to the sponsors. I could also win the intermediate sprint and thus bring the team € 1 500. I'm happy of my day!

I did not really suffer from the heat because we have had similar temperatures for the last two months. Still I have consumed a lot of energy on a day like today. The Tour is still long, so it will be crucial to recover because I really want to get to Paris. Starting on Sunday it will be really tough. "
