STRADE BIANCHE 2017: GREAT CYCLING IS BACK IN TERRE DI SIENA THIS WEEKEND

Starting on Friday 3 March at 12:00 with the Cancellara's Sector Milestone Ceremony, followed at 16:00 with a Press Conference featuring the Men and Women UCI Road World Champions. The Pro races are on Saturday 4 March, with the grand finale on Sunday 5, the Gran Fondo.

Milan, 1 March 2017 – A spectacular international weekend is waiting, with great cycling organised by RCS Sport / RCS Active Team / La Gazzetta dello Sport in the Terre di Siena.

FRIDAY 3 MARCH
The scheduled events will start at 12:00 with the naming of a sector of Strada Bianca (the one of Monte Sante Marie in Asciano) dedicating it to Fabian Cancellara. The Swiss ace, who won the race three times and will attend the ceremony, will have his name forever engraved on a milestone posed on that sector. In the afternoon, at 16:00, a pre race press conference will be held at the presence of the UCI Road World Champions Peter Sagan and Amalie Dideriksen. The Press Conference will be held at the Race Headquarters in Siena: Palazzo Sansedoni – Fondazione Monte dei Paschi.

SATURDAY 4 MARCH – THE PRO RACES
Both the men's and women's races will start from the Fortezza Medicea in Siena and will finish in the same city, in the iconic Piazza del Campo.

SAGAN, VAN AVERMAET, ŠTYBAR – ALL IN
In the men's Strade Bianche NamedSport, part of the UCI WorldTour calendar for the first time, eyes will be focused on the classics specialists such as UCI World Champion, Peter Sagan (Slovakia), the Olympic Road Champion Greg Van Avermaet (Belgium) and the Czech rider Zdeněk Štybar (winner in 2015 and runner-up in 2016 behind Cancellara).

DEIGNAN, DIDERIKSEN, VOS, VAN DER BREGGEN, GUARNIER AND LONGO BORGHINI – A RACE FOR THE STARS
Among the women who will challenge for victory of the Strade Bianche Women Elite NamedSport, the favourites are: the Briton Lizzie Deignan (last year's winner), the Dane Amalie Dideriksen (UCI World Champion), the Dutch duo Marianne Vos and Anna van der Breggen (Olympic Road Champion), the American Megan Guarnier (winner in 2015) and the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini.

SUNDAY 5 MARCH – THE GRAN FONDO
On Sunday, over the very same course as the women's pro race the previous day, the Gran Fondo will witness 5,000 sportive riders taking on the Strade Bianche of the Terre di Siena.
