Tour of Flanders - Offredo close to top 10 [02-04-17 20:29 by staff GoNBike.com]

Yoann Offredo close to top 10, good day for WGG

Wanty-Groupe Gober rode an offensive Ronde van Vlaanderen (1.UWT). Mark McNally was part of the early breakaway of this 101st edition. Later Pieter Vanspeybrouck and Yoann Offredo joined some important breakaways. In the final Yoann Offredo was battling for top 5. He finished 14th in Oudenaarde. Wanty-Groupe Gobert was (together with Trek-Segafredo and QuickStep Floors) the only team capable of finishing with their eight riders.

Yoann Offredo :
« The race was very hard. I like racing this way. I tried to anticipate on Oude Kwaremont. On Taaienberg I went into the offensive and thus I could follow Sagan, Van Avermaet and Naesen when they accelerated. On Paterberg I didn't believe enough in my own chances. I was dropped together with Trentin but we made the wrong choice to wait for the upcoming group with a lot of sprinters. In the sprint everyone was à bloc. I did a good race but I am a bit disappointed of the final result. The condition is good but the end of the classics is near. Anyway I can be proud of my race today. »

Hilaire Van der Schueren (sportdirecteur) :
« I am satisfied of the performance of our team. We were present in the front of the race from the beginning with Mark McNally. In each important breakaway we were represented with at least one rider. Offredo was battling for fifth place in the end. Then you have to be satisfied. Yoann rode a perfect race tactically. Unfortunately Backaert crashed before Muur van Geraarsbergen, a very bad moment. We made a good selection and our riders proved they were ready for the big classics. Now we prepare for Paris-Roubaix. »
