TDF #9 : Martin 30th in queen stage

The 9th stage in Tour de France confirmed its status as queen stage. The pace never lowered during the 181 kilometers long stage between Nantua and Chambéry with six climbs. Guillaume Martin had a difficult day and finished 30th. In the GC Martin now is 22nd. The nine Wanty-Groupe Gobert riders made the time cut and thus reach the first rest day complete.

Guillaume Martin :

"The crash of Geraint Thomas caused a gap and thuw we arrrived at the foot of Grand Colombier with a small gap in front of us. That costed some energy and I had to pay for those efforts on top of the climb. I couldn't recover anymore afterwards and I felt it would be difficult on Mont du Chat. I am disappointed to lose so many time today, but I expected this because of the tough profile. My first week however remains positive."

Hilaire Van der Schueren (sports director) :

“As expected this was a tough stage for our team. The different climbs were hard for Guillaume. But he performed well. He is now 22nd in the general classification. Not too bad! This is Le Tour, and the pace is very high."

"The first week was overall positieve, with as icing on the cake Guillaume's performance yesterday. We reached our first goal by arriving with nine riders. We avoided the big crashes and survived the first climbs. The first rest day is here just in time for us, but also for the other riders in the pack."
